Teaching Mathematics at Northwestern University

The image above (oh that my blackboards looked like that!) is from Timeline Theater's performance of A Disappearing Number, a mesmerizing play about mathematics, love, death and of course, my favorite mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. I mention it here, because one of my calculus students at Northwestern let me know it was showing in Chicago and I managed to see the play before it left town. And this is only one small example of why I love my students. Most are non-traditional students with curious minds and great stories of their own. It is an honor to work with them to understand the beauty and rigor of mathematics. I'm also grateful for this part-time position that allows me to keep my math brain alive.
P.S. If you are in my integral calculus class, can you identify the infinite series in the image above?
